Games and animations

On this page, there are game projects, 3D assets, sketches and stuff made mostly at school.

The page is constantly being updated.

Pixel project

We practiced pixel game graphics. This character and its animations are made with Piskel. I saved the spritesheet as a png. and the animations as a gif.

I made tile sheets and a background in Photoshop and imported them to Unity.

I implemented the characters in spiritesheets as a png. files and I made animations out of them and coded the lickability of the arrow key.

Other things

Some sketches and tests with a Piskel.

2D character

I designed a 2D character, a cat for which I drew a concept from side, front and 3/4 profiles in Photoshop, and a colored version.

In Unity, I made the bones, then
rigged the character, and finally made some animations for it; idle + walk and battle jump. And the beast looking is an extra one, the beast says meow in it.

Memories and Journey

Pelin ikoneita ja game over, tein Photoshopissa.

Tausta assetteja, yksityiskohtia, tein niitä piskelillä.

Memories and Journey

A pixel game project that was made in Unity in 3 weeks.

My tasks were to make most of the game graphics in this project. With our teammates, we discussed and thought about ideas and needed assets, etc.

background assets, and details of the game, I made them in Piskel.

Concepts and sketches, that were not used.

3d basics

Blockout

The task was to make a castle from simple shapes. This was the first thing I got to interact with 3D.

Axe

The second task was to make a simple asset from a reference image. Then I imported it to Unity and made the textures in Photoshop.

modular castle

First I made castle parts in Maya  from simple shapes, and then I transferred the parts to Unity, there then I built the castle as a whole from the parts and put realistic textures that I downloaded from PolyHaven.com

Cubeman

In Maya, I practiced making an easy blockout character. Also, I learned how to rig and made a walk animation for the character. I made textures in Photoshop.

Alloy cog rigid

A month-long 3D game project made with Unity and styled with PS1 graphics.

In this project, I focused on the game's playable 3D character and enemies. I modeled and rigged them in Maya. I exported the characters and their animations in .fbx files, where they were then imported to Unity.

Poster

alloy_cog_rigid.png

I made the funny poster in Photoshop.

Duck

The villain of the game: is a duck who works in a bread factory. I shaped the duck from a reference image in Maya. The textures are from the internet they are from the Creative Commons picture. The animations and rigging of the duck were a bit challenging, but the result was quite good.

Toast

The playable character of the game: is a toast who breaks into a bread factory. First I started making a whole loaf in Maya, but I changed the idea. Then I made a piece of bread, it was easy to animate, like that death animation. I put the textures of the toasted bread on it, I thought it would give a badass appearance, they are like scars.

Bread baking machine

And finally, the Bread Machine, which you face at the end of the game. I had in mind a big baking oven with a conveyor belt coming out of it, and based on that, I started to design it in Maya and put a bread prototype I had made earlier. I thought that it would fit on it.

I had a little fun with the 3D model.

rpg- shop

Here I practiced making UI art. In the beginning, I practiced coding this store. But after I focused more on UI's.

icons

First, I made sketches in Photoshop of how the icons would look and looked at different icon styles on Google. Then I started designing icons in Illustrator, based on sketches. Also, I looked for a copyright-free font on a site called www.dafont.com.

I also made the background for the shop in Photoshop using gradient colors and a brush to make traces. I added a couple more pentagrams that came with the font, the pentagram in the font was a hashtag mark (Actually, that's not a pentagram but a pentacle, I didn't know that at the time of making it.)

Deal Icons

These are also made in Illustrator, the top one means when you can buy something, the middle one when you can't buy and the last one is when you have pressed the button.

Shopkeeper

Finally, I designed the shopkeeper and according to the theme, It's a demon. First I made a small sketch in Photoshop and after that, I started to form it in Illustrator.

I made a little booth for the store in Photoshop.

6 feet under

logo_6-foot-under.png

Autumn's Finnish College Game Jam #3 game project.

The theme was Halloween. Based on that, we made an Escape room-style horror game in a week with PS1 graphics.

The logo I added here was designed by me. It's a prototype version because my teammate later added blood splatters to it. I made the logo in Photoshop, and the font is from Adobe's font library. The number 6 in the logo is from a copyright-free font downloaded from www.dafont.com.

I was working on a monster/enemy of the game in this project. First, I was going to modify the finished Slenderman model, but then I wanted to do the whole model by myself. I sketched the concept in Photoshop and then modeled the character in Maya, however I took a little inspiration from Slendeman.

In Photoshop, I made the textures for it and at the last moment I started rigging the character and working on the animation. Finally, I exported the character as a .fbx file.
And well the animations didn't work in the game so the monster runs with T pose.

The running animation that didn't work in the game.

Root Monster

I made a playable character for the game. A Lumberjack who throws axes. I made everything with Piskel. First I googled what lumberjacks look like and then I made a sketch. The character in the sketch looked too direct, thinking that it had to fit into the top-down game. In the end, I found a suitable point of view for the character and made the turning directions for all animations. Not all were used because we didn't have much time to put them into Unity. Finally, I made the death animation.

lumberjack_death (2).gif

Spring Finnish Game Jam game project. The game had to be made in 48 hours during the weekend.

The topic was roots, our team made a Top Down style Boss Fight pixel game.

lumberjack_death-4.png.png

I also made throw animation but we didn't have time to use it.

cursor-1.png (1).png

I still had time to make a target cursor for the game. First tried with a black shade but it didn't work with the background so then changed to white and it worked.

lumberjack_consept-1.png.png

First sketch of the character.

cursor-1.png (2).png

First version of the cursor but it was too dark, with the background in the game.

When you win the game this will appear. One of the team members got the idea that at the end when you win the game, we could add a meme, then I started drawing. The inspiration is from this: https://knowyourmeme.com/photos/330811-you-win-this-time.

2D animation

I animated some basic 2D animation practices and I used software called FireAlpaca to animate these.

This little mouse animation is squash and stretch practice.

This was walking animation practice, I drew some kind of Jock that came to my head.

And this was a little bigger project, I first designed a character and I drew a character sheet of it. I used Adobe Photoshop.

Then I animated a walking animation in FireAlpaca. The animation with background was my own little extra project.

3D rigging and animation practice

These were rigging and animation practice. I used Maya to this.

First I animated a simple ball and practiced how gravity works. Other ball is heavy and other is lighter.

After that I rigged a ready humanoid character with loops. Also I played with the colors a little bit and made little extra animation its the dance one.

3D sculpt

In this project I learned 3D sculpting with ZBrush. I sculpted a skull pierced by a sword and it's actually my favorite of all the projects.

Rock lod

First I sculpted the rock in ZBrush, and I moved the sculpt to Maya so I could then reduce the topology of the sculpt. I made a few different versions of the rock and reduce the topology for LOD.

One of the version I moved to Substance Painter and made some textures.

3D character

I made a gardener goblin, I wanted to fuse 2 something unsual things and came up with this idea. First I planned the appearance of the character to moodboard and then I made few sketches, I chose the second version.

Then in Maya I first made a low poly version of the character. Then I started adding edgeloops to make it as a midpoly version. I sculpted the face in ZBrush in Maya I re-topologed it. After this I rigged the character and put Motion Capture made animation. With my class I visited in Motion Capture studio and we made animations to others characters too, It was quite interesting experience.

Also I modeled a little watercan for gardener, of course gardener should have one :).

Time run out so I didn't really have time to make textures, I tried to just put colors but I don't really like them.

visual practices and own works

Some visual practices I have made alongside with projects.

Own doodles and drawings that I have made during breaks.
